George King, age 89, a resident of Shell Lake, died on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at Glenview Assisted Living in Shell Lake.

George Robert King was born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin on October 12, 1927, to parents George and Elizabeth (Bleskatchek) King.  The family moved to Spooner where he attended the Spooner Schools and graduated the Class of 1946.  He then joined the US Army and served overseas in Japan for nearly a year before being Honorably Discharged and transferred to the Army National Guard in December of 1947.   Shortly after his discharge, he enrolled in Northland College in Ashland where he would receive a Bachelor’s Degree and would begin a 33 year career with the Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources as a Fisheries Biologist.  On February 11, 1950, he was united in marriage to Elaine Stellrecht in Pine City, Minnesota.  His job would have him working in several communities such as Spooner, Chippewa Falls, and the Bayfield/Washburn area for the majority of his career.  After his retirement, the couple continued to reside in Ashland with his dog Flame until 2007 when they moved to Spooner, and for the past year have resided in Shell Lake.  George enjoyed the peace and quiet of the family cottage on Bear Lake, and spending time with family.

George is survived by his wife Elaine of Shell Lake, children: Robert King of St. Paul, MN, Gary (Cathy) King of Denver, CO, Kathy (Robert) Dunlap of Evergreen, CO, Steve (Suzanne Parker) King of Maple Grove, MN, Jeff (Doreen) King of Neosho, WI, and Phillip (Joanne Weeks) Morris of New Richmond, WI, 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great- great grandchildren. 

George is preceded in death by his parents and daughter Nancy Olson King.

A memorial service for George King will be held on Monday, September 25, 2017, at 11am, at the Shell Lake United Methodist Church with Pastor Steve Miller officiating.  Visitation will be on Monday, from 10-11am at the Church.  A private interment will take place at a later date.
