In Memory of George E. Wilson

May 19, 1952 - March 21, 2023

George Edward Wilson, age 70, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at his home in Hayward, Wisconsin.

George Wilson was born to Newell (Mick) and Helga (Makinen) Wilson. George graduated with the Class of 1970 in Owen, Wisconsin. On July 14, 1984, he married Mona (Serocki) Wilson in a unique wedding ceremony held on a pontoon boat on Big Birch Lake in Birchwood, Wisconsin. Together they lived in Birchwood for 4 years until purchasing an uncompleted home on Burns Lake in Hayward, Wisconsin where he resided until the time of his passing.

He started his career working with Freeport Silo and later working on mobile home construction. In 1979, he worked as a machinist in Craig Carlson’s Repair Shop in Stanley, Wisconsin. After moving to Hayward, George worked for 20 years at Concor Machine as a welder.

He was a hard-working, fun-loving man. George could usually be found in his garage tinkering with many side jobs and “special projects,” most recently, his 1950 Dodge truck. He loved nothing more than to have friends, family and neighbors swing by the garage for a cold one – Happy Hour bell rang at 3:00. Pontoon and Kubota rides were enjoyed by all. Over the years, he fine-tuned things like the “Milk Can Meal” and “Bloodies in a Box.” George and his wife enjoyed processing their own food (sausage, sauerkraut, and salsa). His vacations were enjoyed at deer camp in Ashland and Clam Lake and spending winter months in Arizona. He loved classic country music and was an avid reader, especially westerns. On Christmas Eve, everyone looked forward to his recitation of his rendition of “The Night Before Christmas.” Having been raised in a relatively small family, George always referred to his large family of “in-laws” as “The Waltons” but that’s okay because he soon became one of them.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mona Wilson. He is further survived by his step-mother-in-law Marian Slowiak (Serocki) and her children; and many in laws; Ron Serocki, Linda & Duane Briski, Marlene & Matt Wilson, Denise & Wally Milas, Mark & Becky Serocki, Brenda & Kenny Pogodzinski, Jim & Shelly Serocki and Mike & Stacy Serocki. He leaves behind nieces, nephews and many other family members, friends and neighbors.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Newell (Mick) and Helga Wilson; his brother, David and wife, Jackie Wilson; father and mother-in-law, James and Bernice Serocki; and brother-in-law, Thomas Serocki.

There will be no funeral services.  Family will disperse ashes at his favorite sites at a later date.
