In Memory of Gary L. Berg
Gary Lee Berg, age 73, passed away peacefully at home on July 4, 2025, surrounded by love.
Gary was born in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, and he graduated from Bloomer High School in 1970. He went on to attend the University of Wisconsin–River Falls before proudly serving in the United States Air Force, where he earned the rank of E4 and was honorably discharged. Following his service, Gary began a long and dedicated career with Xcel Energy, working as a meter technician for over 30 years. The first part of his career was spent in Amery, WI. Here he met and married his best friend, Vicki Fredrickson, on November 13th, 1982.
An avid outdoorsman, Gary found joy in fishing and hunting—especially when it meant time with his good friends. A devoted Green Bay Packers fan, Sundays were often spent cheering on his team. He was the kind of neighbor you could always count on—ready to lend a hand, fix what was broken, and help in any way he could. If something needed to be done, you could count on him to be there. Over the last several years, he had enjoyed Winters spent in Destin, Florida amongst the company of great friends and family. During the Summer months, neighborhood gatherings were something he always looked forward to.
Gary was kind-hearted, dependable, social, and had a zest for life. A little stubborn at times, but always with the best intentions. Above all, he was most proud of his role as a Grandfather. His Grandchildren were the light of his life, and he treasured every moment with them. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Vicki Berg; 3 children, Matt (Anna) Berg, Kristin (Jameson) Peters and Karine (Miles) Kraczek; 7 grandchildren, Kierstin (Jacob) Costales, Amelia, Cordelia, Gwendolyn, Brynn, Ethan and Hayden; a great grandson, Jaxen; a brother, Curtis (Shari) Berg; two sisters, Tamara Berg and Cindy (Stan) Hill; a brother-in-law, Bill Behn; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Arlene Berg; and a sister, Rebecca Behn.
A private family service will be held at 10AM Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, Rev. Ned Lenhart officiating, with interment in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI where Full Military Rites will be accorded him by the Rice Lake Veteran Honor Guard. A public celebration of life will be held at the Rice Lake Moose Lodge on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 from 3-6PM.
