In Memory of Gail A. Larson
Gail Anna Larson passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on November 27, 2023. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Gail brought warmth, love, and humor to the lives of those around her.
Gail Anna Prigge was born on August 20, 1940, in Minneapolis, MN, to Edward and Freida (Stasiak) Prigge.
She spent most of her childhood on a farm in Wausau, where the values of hard work, resilience, and a deep connection to the land became an integral part of her character. She pursued her education in Minneapolis, training to become a lab tech. After completing her studies, Gail ventured to Barron, where she worked as a Lab Tech for four years when Barron Hospital first opened its doors.
On January 9, 1966, Gail was united in marriage with Gayle Larson, creating a bond that endured the tests of time and served as an inspiration to all who knew them. Life's adventures continued in Iowa City, IA, where she and Gayle settled for approximately 15 years. Together, they raised a beautiful family, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of their children, Douglas (Carmen) and Denise (Greg) Resendez. The call of home beckoned, leading them back to their roots, and together with their children, they settled on the Larson family farm in Hillsdale.
In Hillsdale, Gail found not only the comfort of home but also the opportunity to share her talents and passions with the community. She hung out a shingle, offering custom reupholstering services, leaving an indelible mark on the homes she touched. Gail's creative spirit extended beyond her profession, as she designed and sewed costumes for Barron High School plays, adding a touch of magic to the local arts scene. Gail's generosity knew no bounds, as seen in the multicolored afghans she lovingly crocheted and shared. Each stitch was a testament to the love, care, and humor she poured into her creations.
Gail's dedication to her church was evident through her involvement in the altar guild and the church quilting group. She also spent countless hours embroidering baptismal towels. She served as an usher and shared the sacrament of communion, embodying her deep faith and commitment to her spiritual community. Gail's generous spirit also extended to the younger members of the church, as she delighted in hosting sledding parties for the youth groups for many years. She lovingly prepared large pots of chili and hot cocoa, creating a warm and welcoming space for fellowship and fun.
Gail's legacy extended through the generations with the joyous addition of grandchildren: Emily Larson (Brennan) Lewis, Christopher (Anna) Larson, Samantha Purdy, and Sophia Resendez. Her love and wisdom continued to shine through her great-grandson, Quintin Lewis.
She is survived by her loving husband, Gayle Larson, her children, grandchildren, and great grandson. Gail is also remembered by her brothers, Clifford (Karen) Prigge, John (Diana) Prigge, and the late Dennis (Edith) Prigge. Also remembered with love are Gail’s parents, Edward and Frieda, infant son, Jeffrey, brother, Dennis and his first wife, Mary.
Funeral arrangements are as follows: Visitation on Monday, December 4, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Rausch & Steel Funeral Home in Barron. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, December 5, at 11:00 am with a visitation at 10:00 am at Prairie Lake Evangelical Covenant Church in Chetek.
Her family and friends will forever cherish the love, laughter, and countless cherished memories that Gail leaves behind. Instead of mourning, let us celebrate a life well-lived and a woman whose kindness, creativity, and generosity touched the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
May Gail Anna Larson rest in eternal peace.
