In Memory of Evelyn L. Zappetillo


January 17, 1931 - April 19, 2023

Evelyn Lydia Mathison Zappetillo, of Cumberland, died April 19, 2023.

Evelyn was born January 17th, 1931, to Christ and Lydia Mathison in Cumberland, WI.

Evelyn grew up on the farm with two of her brothers as she was the youngest of 13. She received her education at the Bestlerton School and was a member of East Cumberland Church where she was active with Sunday school, Bible School, and a Circle.

Evelyn was married in Rice Lake on February 23, 1949, to Dominic Zappetillo who preceded her in death on November 22, 1995. She and Dominic moved just a few miles from her home place, where they spent the next 59 years. In the later years she and Dominic joined First Lutheran Church in Cumberland, WI where she was active with church women, circle, and quilting.

Evelyn enjoyed playing cards and cribbage with neighbors and relatives. Weekly get togethers were always a source of fun and rivalry amongst them. Evelyn and husband Dominic enjoyed fishing, camping, and visiting family and friends.

Evelyn and Dominic opened their home up to foster children for several years. Evelyn then worked at several places before going to the Cumberland Hospital in 1971 where she was employed for 34 years.

When she retired, she then volunteered for many years at the Cumberland Senior Center.

Evelyn is survived by her two children Sandra (Dale) Lake and Don Zappetillo, her six grandchildren, Emily (Doug) Drafall, Holly (Charles Groehler) Stoeberl, Heather (Brent) Colburn, Reyna (Shane) Geist, Rebecca Zappetillo, Donny (Jessi) Zappetillo. Nine great grandchildren Reid Drafall, Hunter Stoeberl, Dayne Stoeberl, Bryce Colburn, Brook Colburn, Caleb Michlig, Cailey Michlig, Miranda (Kyle Hanke) Ricci, Austin Hendrichsmeyer, and one Great Great Grandchild Grace Hanke, and also many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, Dominic, her parents, sisters Corrine, Grace, Iva, Leota, Winona, Leona, Ruth, Verna, and brothers Charles, Clifford, Willard, and Eugene.

Pallbearers: Doug Drafall, Brent Colburn, Shane Geist, Damian Stoeberl, Bruce Carlson, Wayne Mathison.

Honorary Pallbearers: Great Grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at First Lutheran Church, Cumberland, from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM with service following at 11:00 AM. Burial will be a Section 10 (East Cumberland) Cemetery. Meal will follow the service.
