In Memory of Eugene A. Cooper


August 31, 1931 - August 12, 2024

Eugene A. Cooper, known affectionately as Gene, passed away on August 12, 2024, at the age of 92 in Luck, Wisconsin. Born on August 31, 1931, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Gene dedicated much of his life to journalism and his community.

Gene’s career in journalism was both long and distinguished. He served as a newspaper reporter and later as the Editor of the New Richmond News. He continued to shape local journalism as the Editor of the Luck Enterprise and as a reporter for the Burnett County Sentinel. Beyond his editorial roles, Gene was a passionate freelance writer, contributing to the Outdoor News and other outdoor news outlets. His love for nature also found a professional outlet at Fawn-Doe-Rosa, where he worked for 23 years, sharing his passion for wildlife and conservation.

An avid reader, Gene’s interests included fishing and hunting, reflecting his deep connection with the outdoors. His work at Fawn-Doe-Rosa allowed him to combine his professional and personal passions, working closely with animals and educating visitors about wildlife.

Gene was a member of the Luck Lutheran Church, where he participated in community and spiritual activities. His faith and dedication to his community were evident in his commitment to both his profession and his church.

He is survived by his son Edward and wife Janet; daughter Connie; brother Grant (Karen); along with his cherished grandchildren Eric and wife Sarah, Scott, Amy and husband Aaron, Jessi and husband Mike, Sarah and husband Patrick, Miranda and fiancé Mark, Chamie and late husband Mark, and Ricky; great-grandchildren Alissa and husband Nick, Alex, Alivia, Mani, Sophia, Mariah fiancé Taylor, Noah, and Jonah; great-great-grandchildren Victoria, Violet, Jaxson, and Izabelle

Gene was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Selma Cooper; his wife Donna Cooper; and his son Donald.

Gene’s life and legacy will be celebrated in a manner befitting his significant contributions to his community and his field. His family invites those who knew him to join in remembering a life well lived, marked by a commitment to truth, nature and family. This celebration will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Luck Lutheran Church with a time for visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.
