In Memory of Edward “Ed” Janisin


February 17, 1950 - February 10, 2025

Edward “Ed” Janisin Age 74, of Rice Lake, WI, died Monday, February 10, 2025 at home in Rice Lake with loved ones present.

He was born on February 17, 1950 in Rice Lake to Merlin and Gena (Lee) Janisin. Ed went to school in Dobie, WI, graduated in 1968 from Rice Lake High School, and attended UW Barron County Campus. He entered the National Guards and was married to Mary Jo Zimmerman on May 12, 1973. Ed worked at the Rice Lake Creamery and then Johnson Truck Bodies until his retirement in 2014. Ed loved all the moments he spent with his family, which were many. His grandson, Joe, was at the top of his list. He enjoyed football, hunting with the boys, working in his yard, walking with his friend Joe and enjoying summers in the screen house.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Janisin; 2 sons, Matt (Brooke) Janisin of Elkhorn, WI and Dan (Nikki) Janisin of Rice Lake; a grandson, Joe; 2 sisters, Janet Malik and Mary (Jerry) Rust; a brother, Jim (Debbie) Janisin; sister-in-law, Janet Janisin; and other sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Merlin and Gena Janisin; and 2 brothers, John and Bobby Janisin. Many thanks to all the family and friends for their prayers and kind deeds.

Thank you to all the wonderful doctors and EMTs at Marshfield Hospital in Rice Lake who worked diligently to find a hospital that could handle Ed’s situation. Thanks also to all the doctors and nurses at Abbott Northwestern for their amazing care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM Thursday, February 20, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake, Father Joseph Kumar officiating, with interment in St. Joseph Cemetery in Rice Lake. Visitation will be held from 4-7PM Wednesday at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals in Rice Lake and for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Joseph Catholic School or St. Jude’s Hospital would be appreciated.
