Douglas J. Fall (67) of Clear Lake died peacefully on March 12, 2024, at Region’s Hospital surrounded by family. Doug was born April 9, 1956, in Rice Lake, WI, to Clement and MaryAnn (Krecker) Fall. He grew up in rural Clayton on the family farm. Doug graduated from Clayton High School in 1974. After high school, he attended UW-Eau Claire where he pursued a degree in business management. He started his career at Clayton State Bank as an insurance agent, then transitioned to a career as an insurance claims representative. He married his wife, Judy, on April 24, 1982, and they established their home in Clear Lake, WI, where they raised 3 daughters together. Doug was a man of many hobbies and volunteer opportunities.

Doug was an avid softball player playing weeknight league and weekend tournaments, starting his career with the Twin Town softball team. Softball was a family activity that all 4 brothers participated in together. His daughters grew up at the softball field. Doug also enjoyed bowling in the winter league at Admiral Inn for many years. He was extremely active as a referee and umpire officiating football, basketball, and softball. Doug celebrated 50 years of refereeing basketball this past year. He enjoyed teaching the young athletes on the court or field. He committed many hours to the Clear Lake Basketball Booster Club, announcing at athletic events, and coaching his daughters’ sports teams.

While his father, Clem, was farming, Doug often assisted with chores on the dairy farm. Clem and Doug transitioned to raising beef cattle in 1996, which they were both passionate about. After his father’s passing, Doug continued their grass-fed beef cattle business with his siblings.

After family, Doug was most proud of his 38 years serving on the Clear Lake Fire Department. He served as an officer for 11 of those years. Doug was a lifelong member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Almena, WI, serving as president and vice president on the church council for many years.

Doug greatly enjoyed the outdoors. He was often found fishing, gardening, hunting, cutting wood or maple syruping with his wife Judy. His daughters thoroughly enjoyed fishing opportunities with him and time at the family cabin! Those who fished with him will forever remember the camaraderie and fun they had in the boat or on the ice. The “Doug Fall” method for ice fishing of putting in tip ups then warming up inside the cabin while playing cards was enjoyed by many. Doug loved sharing the cabin with family and friends, and looked forward to the annual “Bail Out” fish camp.

Doug had a very kind and sharing heart. He loved to provide to others with his homemade split pea soup, venison sausages, apple crisp, and fresh produce from their garden. It was rare to leave their home without him sending a bag full of food, and he looked forward to making deliveries of food to family and friends. He had a heart for older generations, as well, and was always willing to assist or care for them.

Above everything else, Doug was a family man and loved spending his time with them. He was exceptionally proud of his daughters. Doug adored his grandchildren, and they absolutely adored him in return. He was a protector and provider for each of his family members, and continued these roles until his final days. He will be greatly missed and forever loved by his family and friends.

Doug is preceded in death by his father and mother, and niece Marissa Theorin. He is survived by his wife, Judy; daughters, Steph (Jordon), Amanda (Matthew), and Denise; 3 grandchildren; siblings Dave (Pam), Jim (Kim), Kevin (Tracey), and Lori; and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials to St. Matthew Lutheran Church’s Building Fund would be appreciated per Doug’s request.

Funeral services will be 10:30am on Monday, March 18, 2024 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Almena, WI. Burial will be at the St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery in Almena, WI. Visitation for Douglas will be from 1pm to 5pm on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Williamson - White Funeral Home in Amery, and one hour prior to services at the church.
