In Memory of Doris J. Gullickson
Doris Jane (Larson) Gullickson, 93 of Milltown passed away in the early morning of Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at the Amery Regional Medical Center. Doris Oliver was born on May 20, 1930 to Thomas Oliver and Mary Warner Oliver in Baltimore, Maryland.
Doris attended school in Baltimore and graduated from Southern High School. Doris met the love of her life, Dale Larson, roller skating in Baltimore where Dale was stationed in the Army. On September 9, 1948 they were wed. Then they moved back to Milltown to Dale's home to start their family. Together they grew their family to include their children Tom, Bruce, Roger, Linda, Lori, Jim, and Nancy. Doris was a homemaker all of her life, taking care of her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed going dancing and listening to Dale play his accordion in the band.
Her love of the outdoors found her watching the birds gather around her bird feeders, the deer which would run through the yard, and recently watching thirty turkeys run through the yard. She loved watching for her cardinals and would feed the birds and other animals that would pass through. It was also her fun nature to enjoy watching for the wildlife that would come out of the neighboring corn field, like the bears, coyotes, and fox. She would love to go for rides, especially Crex Meadows, looking for swans. Going out to eat was a great way to get out of the house too.
After Dale passed away in 1973, she met Floyd Gullickson. They were wed on December 28, 1977. Doris would travel with Floyd all over the United States as he was on business trips for Fisher Wood Stoves. She really enjoyed travelling. Floyd passed in 1991. Friends and family helped her since then. A couple of special friends included Calvin Anderson and Delbert Sands. Her friends at the VFW were also special to her.
Doris leaves to celebrate her memory: her children; Tom, Milltown; Bruce (Marcy), Hayward; Roger, Milltown; Linda (Roger) Giller, Luck; Lori, Balsam Lake; Jim (Dodie), Milltown; 13 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Kenneth and Olga Larson, her first husband Dale Larson, her second husband Floyd Gullickson, her daughter Nancy Burton, her grandson Ky Larson, her daughter in law June Larson (Tom), her brother Tom, sisters Elizabeth and Rose, and special friends and family.
The funeral service for Doris will be held on Wednesday, September 20 at 11:00am at the Joy Lutheran Church in Centuria (501 WI-35, Centuria, WI 54824). Pastor Angie Kutney will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September, 19 at Joy Lutheran in Centuria from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and again at the church Wednesday from 10-11:00am.
Doris will be laid to rest alongside her husband Dale at the Milltown Cemetery following the funeral service. The family invites guests to join them in the church fellowship hall for lunch following the cemetery service.
