In Memory of Donald W. Olson
Donald Wayne Olson “Donnie”, age 77, a resident of Webster, WI passed away on January 10, 2022 at the Burnett Medical Center.
Donnie was born on August 10, 1944 at the Frederic Hospital.
He was the 5th child to Ralph and Pauline (Gustafson) Olson. He graduated from Grantsburg High School in 1962. After high school, Donnie worked various jobs including Rolite Industries and then started employment for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources until his retirement. This job was perfect for his love of the outdoors and the environment.
On August 14, 1973 he married Bonita Graves. Together they raised their two daughters, Polly and Heather in the Karlsborg area. They instilled a good work ethic and a love for sports.
Donnie always loved sports. He played fast pitch softball for many years, forming many close friendships. He and his friend, Mike Herrick, assisted many young players to enjoy the sport. As a family, they often spent their weekends at ball tournaments; Donnie playing and Bonnie and the girls as fans and his best cheerleaders.
Family time was very important to him. Donnie enjoyed his family and loved spending time with them. He always looked forward to the two-day family reunions to reminisce. Some of the best times were spent at the summer holiday picnics and Christmas.
Donnie was an avid reader enjoying the daily news, sports sections and Packer Plus. He followed the Wisconsin Badger teams and the Green Bay Packers. He was an avid outdoorsman. He extended his knowledge of hunting to his daughters and granddaughter. He loved deer hunting with his family.
Donnie is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Louise McKinley and Lenore Oberg; brothers, Christ, Jerry, Marvin; brothers- in-law, Donald Swenson, Willard Oberg and Andrew Mattson.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Bonnie; daughters, Polly (Sean) Routzahn and Heather (Michael) Bohannon; grandchildren, Keely Routzahn and Donald Bohannon; brothers, Peter (Diana) Olson, Darrell (Janice) Olson, Richard (Janice) Olson, James (Marsha) Olson; sisters, Ann Swenson, Barbara Olson, Shirley (Ben) Koerper; brother-in-law, Allen McKinley; sisters-in-law, Judy Mattson and Linda (Marvin) Slayton; along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 11:00 AM (visitation from 10 – 11 AM) at the Calvary Covenant Church in Alpha, WI with Pastor Scott Sagle officiating.
Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster.
