DeeAnn Samshal Age 80, of Rice Lake, WI, died Monday, April 11, 2022 in Rochester, MN.

She was born on November 15, 1941 in Rice Lake to DeWayne and Dorothy (Wilz) Haugen.

DeeAnn graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1960 and then attended Barron County Normal School and attended UW River Falls with a teaching degree. DeeAnn taught at a private school in Omaha, Nebraska for a few years. She was married to Ervin “Sam” Samshal on July 31, 1970 in Rice Lake. She loved to read books, listened to Lawrence Welk music, fly fishing, being outdoors, going for bike rides, going on walks and going to the American Legion Post in Rice Lake.

She is survived by her husband, Ervin “Sam” Samshal; 3 children, Eric (Holly) Samshal, Jenny Samshal and Kristin (Tyler) Heep; 3 grandchildren, Stella, Benjamin and Elise; a brother, John Haugen (Kathy Wagenbach); 2 nieces, Dawn Emery and Laura Haugen; and several other nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, DeWayne and Dorothy Haugen; and a brother, Michael Haugen.

A celebration of her life will be held from 10AM-Noon Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Appleyard’s Home for Funerals, with interment in Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI at 1PM Thursday, April 21. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the Rice Lake American Legion Post.
