Shortly after their marriage, David was called back into the service during the Berlin Crisis but remained stateside. Upon returning to the farm, David and Julaine started their family. As a farmer, David most enjoyed machinery and field work. In addition, he sold seed corn and did a great deal of custom combining. Beyond farming, he loved to compete in tractor pulls and made it a family affair for many years. In his retirement, he took on woodworking, cutting firewood and lengthy coffee breaks with the guys.
