May 9, 1963 - November 13, 2022

Daniel M Metcalf, age 59, of Northwood, IA, passed away on November 13, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA.

He was born May 9, 1963, in Hayward, WI. Son of Robert Metcalf and Judy (Bloom) Burrows.

He attended school in Spring Lake Park MN. After graduation he moved to California and began his career with the California dept of forestry fighting forest fires which he dearly loved and did for many years. During this period his son and daughter were born, and he left the forestry to be a full-time single dad. He spent many years being the best dad he could be. And he moved to Northwood Iowa in 2009.

Dan developed liver disease in 2020 which he fought fiercely for 2.5 years. On October of 2021 he was placed on the transplant list and was being evaluated in Nebraska for dual listing and a living donor transplant.

Dan was a simple, quiet man with nothing but kind words. He  had many great attributes including patience, honesty, self-control, and a wonderful sense of humor. Dan was a joker and loved to punk people with his wild stories and jokes. He was a kind, insightful man who always lit up the room and brought joy everywhere he went.

He is preceded in death by his father Robert Metcalf, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

A funeral service will be held Friday, November 18, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hayward Wesleyan Church in Hayward, WI, with a visitation one hour prior. An interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward next to his grandfather Ubbie Bloom.
