November 7, 1964 - June 27, 2024

After a short struggle with cancer, Daniel John Sullivan was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, June 27th, 2024 surrounded by his loving family at his home in Cameron, WI.

Dan was born November 7th, 1964 to Paul & Virginia (Manderfield) Sullivan at Hancock, MI.

A family finally blessed with a son, joining four older sisters. Dan was the pride and joy of his parents even though his early years were filled with health challenges. A hallmark of Dan’s life journey was the love of God and a strong will to enjoy life. He loved his Yooper roots, especially his old neighborhood, Minnesota Street in Hancock, growing up surrounded by neighbors who were like family! Dan attended Hancock Public Schools graduating in 1994. He graduated from Northern Michigan University in Communications in 1989. Following college, Dan held many journalism jobs His passion was human interest stories. He took pride in bringing other folks tales to life on paper and we always enjoyed hearing of the people he interviewed. Dan’s final job was serving special needs people as a job coach. A role he loved and was very rewarded in. Dan’s life journey took him too many communities in Michigan and Wisconsin. While working in Superior, WI, Dan met the love of his life, Becky Groothousen. Dan and Becky were married on November 12th, 2005 and couldn’t wait to start a family. They were blessed with three children who are his pride, joy and legacy. Dan was a fulfilled husband and father with his family as his first priority, following his faith. He enjoyed all of his children’s activities, Becky’s family farm visits in Tony, WI and just being with his family. Dan was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Cameron and the Knights of Columbus.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, special uncle & aunt: Jack and Dorothy Manderfield, father-in-law: Peter Groothousen and brother-in-law: John Gagnon. He is survived by his loving wife: Becky, children: Luke, Sophie and Lucy, all at home, his constant pet companions: Chester and Evie, siblings: Marie and Patty Sullivan, Alice (Michael) Walker, Kathy Gagnon and extra sister: Sue Haver, mother-in-law: Lucille Groothousen and special in-laws: Suzie and Peter Hetke, Arnold and Karrie, Sharon and Stephanie Groothousen. In addition to the entire Groothousen family, many well loved nieces & nephews, all of the Manderfield cousins, Spiritual Advisor: Father Lary Van Damme and many other friends too many to mention including the Minnesota Street family who all know who they are, for as Dan said, “it was the best neighborhood to grow up in!” A special thank you to Austin Pacholke who guided Dan and Becky through the end of Dan’s journey. Most of all, Dan loved his wife and kids, his Irish heritage, his Yooper roots, Becky’s home cooking and baking, the Green Bay Packers and his faith that has guided him through his life journey. Dan you are our sunshine forever!
