In Memory of Daniel E. King

September 19, 1944 - April 10, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel E. King, a cherished husband, father, and grandfather who peacefully departed this life on April 10, 2024, after a courageous 4-year battle with colon cancer. Dan leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering determination.

He was born on September 19, 1944, in Timberland, Wisconsin to parents Delbert (Bud) King and Dorothy (Shauers) King on a farm. He was a healthy, happy 2-year-old when he contracted polio in 1946. He spent 9 months fighting for his life in an iron lung at the Sister Kinney Institute in Milwaukee, Wisconsin leaving him with a paralyzed leg and needing to walk with a cane.

Despite facing his physical challenges, Dan approached life with remarkable courage and grit. His passion for the outdoors was evident in his daily life. He spent many days with family and friends fishing in Canada, deer and waterfowl hunting, out West motor home trips, and boating on Lake Superior and Lake Michigan.

He was joined in marriage to his wife of 54 years, Linda in 1969. They say it was love at first sight. That year he also established his insurance business- Dan King Agency. Dan’s unwavering commitment to honesty, compassion, and professionalism earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Linda, Children Kasey and Paul who will continue his business, his beloved grandchildren- Connor and Taylor Childs, Maximus and Jaxson King, brother Paul R. King and an extended family of cherished nieces, nephews, and friends. While he may no longer walk beside us, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Frances Wichman, and brother-in-law Gary Guy Campbell.

A celebration of Dan’s life will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Cornerstone Church in Spooner, WI with Pastor Andrew Melton officiating. Visitation will be at 10 am followed by service at 11 am. Internment to St Joseph’s Cemetery in Trego to follow.

Rest in peace, dear Dan. Your legacy of love, courage, and compassion will continue to inspire us always. In life you did it your way, now God’s angel you can freely run without pain.
