Clarence E. Schmig Sr., age 90, of Webster, WI, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021, in his home.
Clarence was born October 28, 1930, to August and Frances (Hoge) Schmig in McIntosh, SD.
In 1936 his family moved to Holmquist, SD. He went to a country school a half mile north of Holmquist and graduated from Bristol High School in 1948. Clarence worked at the Brokaw Hotel for three years before moving to Mitchell, SD, in 1949, and started working for his brother, Alvin, at a gas station and repair shop. He was assigned to the Headquarters Company 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Germany as a tank mechanic until his discharge in 1953. Clarence moved to St. Paul, MN, and began training for typewriter and adding machine repairs and started his own business in sales and repairs. In November of 1990, Clarence suffered a massive heart attack and had to sell his business. In 1995 he moved his family to their new home on North Sand Lake, about 12 miles northeast from Webster, WI. Ironically when he lived in Holmquist, he was only about 6 miles from Webster, SD.
Clarence loved the outdoors, especially hunting ducks and pheasants in South Dakota. In Wisconsin he loved fishing, since 1967 when they bought their cabin. They moved to the cabin full time in 1995. He enjoyed grouse, turkey, and deer hunting besides his fishing.
