In Memory of Charles Gronlund


January 15, 1935 - December 12, 2020

Charles J. Gronlund “Charlie”, age 85, of Luck, Wisconsin was called home to the Lord on December 12, 2020. 

Charlie was born on January 15, 1935 to Victor and Ruth Gronlund in Trade Lake, Wisconsin. He spent his childhood years in Trade Lake and graduated from Frederic High School in 1953. After high school he moved to the Twin Cities in Minnesota. He worked at Land O’Lakes Inc. He retired from Land O’Lakes in 1997 after an honorable 45 years. After retirement, he kept busy by working at Burnett Dairy and worked there for several years. 

Charlie had a love for skiing and traveled all over the United States and Canada with the Sitzmark Ski Club. He especially loved skiing in Colorado. He was proud to be a founding member of this continually growing club and gained a lifetime of memories and friendships by being a part of it. 

Another passion of his was going to auctions and looking for antiques. He loved to sift through boxes in search of those one of a kind items. He especially loved finding things from Land O’Lakes, specific trinkets from Atlas and Trade Lake, and anything else that caught his eye. He also very much enjoyed socializing with everyone!

Hunting and the great outdoors was always a special time in his life. He looked forward to deer camp every year and enjoyed the camaraderie of the hunting season. 

He wed Karen N. Skifstad in 1975, going on to have one daughter, Jennifer. With this union he also gained one stepson, John and three stepdaughters, Brenda, Toni, and Tracy. After Karen passed away, he later wed Bernice R. Ott on September 19, 1992, where he was blessed with an additional 2 stepdaughters, Debra and Donna. 

He is preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; parents, Victor and Ruth Gronlund; brothers, Cleon and Glen Gronlund; stepdaughter, Brenda (Leisch) Ingram; and son-in-law, Richard Conover II. 

Charlie is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Shawn) Albee; stepson, John (Julie) Leisch; stepdaughters, Toni (Patrick) Wakeling, Tracy Conover, Debra (Monte) Tretsven, Donna (Peter) Johnson; granchildren, Brayden Albee, Braxton Albee, Roxanne (Tim) Neumann, Ryan (Kassi) Leisch, Katy (Mark) Ellefson, Martha (Kevin) Shangle, Joshua Paulsen, Jamie Ingram, Kaitlin Ingram, Adam (AJ) Mattson, Melissa (Joseph) Boumeester, Molly (Josh) Zeilinger, Richard “Richie” Conover  III, Haley (Cole) Lipinski, Lindsey (Jonathan) McCargo, Nicole Johnson, Isaiah Tretsven, Jonah Tretsven, Ella Tretsven; great-grandchildren, Addy Neumann, Teddy Neumann, Lia Neumann, Jayce Leisch, Klyer Leisch, Leyton Leisch, Amelia Ellefson, Harvey Shangle, Gideon Shangle, McKenzie (Kenzie) Arnold, Aydin Hamilton, Brodie Boumeester, Jillian Boumeester, Riley Zeilinger, Mason Zeilinger,  and Eleanor McCargo; nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.   

Private family funeral services will be held.  Charlie will be laid to rest at a place special to his heart.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Brayden Albee and Braxton Albee. 

A special thank you to the United Pioneer Home in Luck, Wisconsin for their excellent care and support for Charlie over the last several years. 

Arrangements are entrusted to Rowe Funeral Home.
