Bruce Thomas Willand, age 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 6, 2024 at his residence in Hayward, WI.

He was born on August 24, 1942 in Chicago, IL, the son of Charles and Helen (Kasik) Willand. He was united in marriage to Veronica Alice Kucharzyk on July 1, 2000 in Chicago.

Bruce was raised on Tripp Avenue in Chicago and built his first home thirty-six feet away from his childhood home. He graduated from Teacher’s College on Navy Pier in Chicago. He taught history and geography in Chicago before embarking on a thirty-six-year career as an Investigator for the Chicago Police Department.  In 2002, Bruce and Veronica retired to their home on the Chippewa Flowage in Hayward. He enjoyed fishing and all the beauty and nature of the Northwoods. He valued his time volunteering for the Northwoods Humane Society and was affectionately known as the “garbalogist” for the Town of Hunter. Bruce was a devout Catholic and a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Veronica Willand of Hayward, WI; his children, Scott Willand of Amboy, IL and Randy Willand of Hayward, WI; his stepson, William Rodriguez of Aurora, IL; his sister-in-law, Betty Lou Willand of Oglesby, IL; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Bruce is preceded in death by his son, Todd Willand; and his siblings, Robert and Caryl Willand.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, where visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of Mass. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Columbarium.
