In Memory of Bruce E. Erickson


July 14, 1934 - May 23, 2022

Bruce Ernest Erickson, 87, of Siren, Wisconsin passed away on May 23, 2022, at the Burnett County Medical Center. Bruce was born in Grantsburg, Wisconsin to Floyd Ernest and Annette Aurora Erickson on July 14, 1934.

Bruce graduated from Grantsburg high school. He received a bachelor's degree in Architecture from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree in Architecture from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Bruce was the chairman of the board at the First Bank of Grantsburg. Bruce, an architect by trade, designed many of the Grantsburg area buildings, including the Bruce Erickson Learning Center, Mary Ann Erickson Grantsburg Public Library, Grantsburg Village office building, Grantsburg Post Office, Grantsburg Inn, restaurant and fitness center.

Upon graduating from MIT, Bruce’s first job was a professor of architecture at the University of Michigan. After six years in Ann Arbor, Bruce moved his growing family to Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a professor and department head of the University of Cincinnati’s school of architecture. Bruce also maintained a private architectural business in Michigan/Ohio/Grantsburg.

Bruce was married for 44 years to his high school sweetheart Mary Ann. Bruce and Mary Ann were active partners in many communities' development projects. They were devoted members of Faith Lutheran Church in Grantsburg Wisconsin and enjoyed traveling the world with family and friends.

Bruce was very active in community committees and associations (Grantsburg planning development association, President and Director of Burnett General hospital board, Rotary club, chamber of commerce, library board, friends of the library and cemetery board).

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Annette Erickson; wife, Mary Ann Erickson; sons, Mark and Todd Erickson; and his brothers, Claire and Wayne Erickson.

Bruce is survived by his sister, Connie Anderson; sons, Brent and Scott Erickson; daughter-in-law’s, Shelly Erickson and Sue Erickson; grandchildren, Megan Houser (husband, Neil), great grandchildren, William, Jackson, John, Alysa Sworsky (husband, Brian); great grandchildren, Grant, Gerrit, Brandon and Brooke Erickson, Ryan Erickson (wife, Lindsey), great grandchildren, Owen, Finn, Ashton Erickson (wife, Kathryn) great grandchild, Finley.

The funeral will take place on June 12th, 2022, at 3:00 PM (visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 PM) at Faith Lutheran Church in Grantsburg, WI.
