In Memory of Bonnie Peterson

June 11, 1945 - April 11, 2025

Bonnie Peterson, age 79, a resident of Shell Lake, died on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Frederic Nursing Home and Rehabilitation.

Bonnie was born on June 11, 1945, in Cook County, Illinois to parents William and Jean (Worthington) Harrison. After high school, she moved to Spooner where she would become married and attend Cosmetology School. After graduating, she was blessed with three children, and began working at My Ladies Beauty Shop until she opened The Cat’s Meow in Spooner. She continued to own and operate The Cat’s Meow until she decided it was time to retire, at which time she sold the business to her long-time friend Tammy Melton.

Bonnie was a long time Domestic Abuse Advocate for Washburn County, member of the Spooner- Trego Lions Club, the Red Hat Club, and enjoyed her mornings sharing a cup of coffee with her friends at the Duck.

Above all the things that Bonnie did in her life, nothing meant more to her than her family and friends. She genuinely loved spending time with her kids and grandkids, especially watching them participate in sporting events. If she wasn’t at a kids’ sporting event, she could be seen with them at the DQ, or going down the river on their annual trip with family and friends.

Bonnie is survived by her loving and devoted husband Rick, children: Scott (Kathy) Byrkit of Coon Rapids, MN, Cindy Cameron of Spooner, WI, Mark Byrkit of Spooner, WI, grandchildren: Michael Byrkit of Spooner, Tyler (Ashley Fairbanks) Byrkit of Forest Lake, MN, Ryan (Ariel Corbett) of Forest Lake, MN, Colton Avery of Spooner, WI, Grayson Avery of Spooner, WI, Tetlin Byrkit of Spooner, WI, great grandchild Valerie Byrkit of Forest Lake, MN, brother Bill Harrison (Kay) of Benson, MN, sister Carole Rappert of Geneva, IL, sisters in law Cheryl Hembry of Emerson, IA, Linda (Steve) Metcalf of Oakville, IA, and special friends Pam Kindig of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Pat Casade of Madison, WI.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her sister Fern Hill, brother-in-law Fred Hembry, and first husband Richard Byrkit.

A time of gathering for friends and family to celebrate Bonnie’s life will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, from 3-5pm, at the Spooner Funeral Home.
