In Memory of Beverly Mosher
Beverly Jean Mosher passed away peacefully in her own home in Webster, Wisconsin on May 15, 2021, at the age of 96.
She was born on April 7, 1925, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, the second of what would be 5 children, to Edwin and Reta Melone. Her parents loved the Lord, and Bev accepted Him as her own Savior at an early age. The family attended Harrison Street Bible Church in South Oak Park, where her mother also attended as a child. Bev met her future husband at the age of 16 through her sister, and it was their dad who invited him to attend church with the family. Richard Mosher came to realize his need for a Savior and made his decision of faith at age 21. Dick and Bev were married at that memorable church on February 16, 1943.
It was wartime, and only two weeks after they were married, Dick was deployed overseas. He served in 5 campaigns during World War II, but the one in Italy made the greatest impact on his life. When he returned home in 2 ½ years as the war was ending and his faith had been tested and found true, he told Beverly he felt God was calling him back to that country as a missionary of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
That news came as a complete shock to Bev. While she loved God and wanted to serve Him, she didn’t want to go. She didn’t tell her husband how she felt but prayed for God to direct her steps and change her heart. He did! Four years of college, one of seminary, and 3 children later they set sail abroad the SS Independence in 1951 for the 9-day journey to the Port of Naples.
How God shaped this beautiful woman into an honorable vessel in His service is the story of her life. She loved being a wife and mother, and she loved people; all kinds of people. Babies were surely her favorite! (Even at 96, when she met her 29th great-grandchild, she was awestruck!) She learned to love the Italian people, and they responded in kind. She would have never guessed the lives of lonely soldiers and sailors that she would touch, nor the bond of fellow missionaries that would grow deep. It would also influence her children in many meaningful ways. She often expressed her love for God through music and she blessed so many people with her piano playing and singing. She was the perfect helpmate for a missionary husband. She is perhaps loved and remembered most for her love of family and of people, her faith in a God who answered her prayers, her sweet spirit, her hearty laughter, her ready smile, her gentle touch, her incredible hospitality.
Beverly Jean become one of God’s best masterpieces! It took Him 96 years to complete the process and we won’t see the final outcome until we join her in eternity. We did see her amazing, sweet reflection of Jesus here on earth and experience the joy of having been touched by her life. What a foundation she has left for us! What an amazing example of what it means to experience God’s best as a result of surrender to His good and perfect will.
Many have surely cheered her into God’s Kingdom, including all of her parent's generation, as well as most of her own. Those family members left behind to cherish her memory and be encouraged by her example are one sister-in-law, her seven children (6 with mates), 21 grandchildren (most with mates), and 29 great-grandchildren (who are all too young to yet be married). Without a doubt, her sweet influence and her remarkable legacy will live on!
