In Memory of Anna K. Basty
Anna Katherine Basty, 74, of Birchwood, WI passed away Friday, March 3, 2023, in the comfort of her home with loved ones by her side. She will be greatly missed and her memory will be cherished forever.
Anna was born August 28, 1948 in Chicago, IL to Nicholas and Ruth (Lantz) Kouvelis.
Anna began school in Chicago, IL and then completed High School in Felch Michigan and was a proud cheerleader.
She was married on June 19, 1993 to her loving husband, David Basty.
Anna’s first job was in hospitality. She continued working for many years as a hostess and waitress, all while being a homemaker. After moving to California, Anna became the Manager and wait-staff trainer for the Hotel Sofitel in San Francisco, CA. She then settled in Wisconsin where she worked at Marketplace in the deli department and Heritage Lakeside Manor as a CNA in Rice Lake and Jennie-O Turkey Store in Barron.
She had a green thumb, loved spending hours in her garden and riding her lawnmower. She loved fishing and always “out-caught” everyone else in the boat and enjoyed days spent on the pontoon. She passed time during winter crocheting.
Her favorite days were spent with family over perfect meals and conversation. She was a great story teller and had an infectious laugh and beautiful smile. She enjoyed sitting on her deck, soaking up the sun and admiring the view of the well-manicured yard with her “Babushka”.
She loved bible study with friends, playing penny machines (just for fun), taking annual trips to the Dells and Michigan, reminiscing about her Florida vacations with all with her siblings, spending time with grand-children and playing cards with anyone who was ok with losing.
A true Fashionista, from head to toe, always in a dress, makeup and hair on point and perfectly accessorized, Anna was truly unforgettable. She was admired and also known as “Fabulous Annie” for her talented vocals while performing with the local band.
Anna will be remembered for the joy, love and comfort she brought to everyone that was blessed to have known her.
She is survived by husband, of 29 years, David Basty; children, Steven Thomas, Audrey (Korey) Fischer and Scott Thomas; six grandchildren, Nathan, Alexandria, Anna, Dalton, Amber, Emily; two great-grandchildren, Adeline and Liam; siblings, Michael (Christine) Kouvelis, John (Mary Ann) Kouvelis and Mary (Bill) Waltzek; brothers-in-law, Bill (Kitty) Basty and John (Marie) Basty; five nieces and nephews and many special cousins, extended family members and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Ruth Kouvelis; parents-in-law, Bill and Dorothy Basty; ex-husband, Stephen Thomas; and nephew, Shawn Thomas.
