In Memory of Amelia R. Peterson

January 10, 2024 - April 29, 2024

On January 10, 2024, Amelia Rose entered this world and swelled the hearts of her parents, Anthony and Corissa Peterson, as well as her two furry siblings, Gauge and Luna. Little “Mia” brought light and laughter into our lives.

Although her time was short, her life was full of love visiting friends, family, and places important to Tony and Cori. She was only 18 days old when she made her first trip up north to tour both Poplar and Superior, Wisconsin, meeting many great aunts, great uncles, and cousins. She shared in one of Tony and Cori’s passions of the outdoors by golfing and going on hikes through both St. Croix Falls Interstate Park and Osceola/Chisago Loop Trailhead. She was able to visit the Schmidt Family Farm, now the residence of Uncle Zach and Aunt Lily Schmidt as well as visit the home of Uncle Zach and Aunt Kelly Peterson. Amelia was able to spend weekends at both Grandparents’ homes. And in true Wisconsin fashion, she visited many local watering holes including Hummers (Rivera Baby Shower), Trollhaugen (Buck Birthday Celebration), Chateau St. Croix Winery (Great-Grandma Nancy’s Birthday), Frederic Golf Course, Hack’s and Logger’s (Cori’s 30th Birthday), Tipsy Steer Brewery (family outing), and Whitetail Wilderness Bar (family outing). Being blessed with such a mild winter allowed Mia to enjoy many afternoon and evening walks with her family.

Amelia faced her challenges with courage. Born hard of hearing, she bravely adapted to her new hearing aids. Mia’s beautiful eyes were incredibly observant, and she witnessed her family eagerly embrace learning American Sign Language (ASL), guided by her aunt, Sawyer Helgeson. In Amelia’s honor, Sawyer will be interpreting the service. Amelia was also diagnosed with mild hip dysplasia and adjusted well to wearing her brace, however, she figured out how to maximize her breaks from the brace by timing her spit-up in the morning. Amelia was well traveled to the cities for many clinic visits to Children’s, as well as to St. Croix Health where she was able to visit not only her dad, Tony, but also her Grandmother Kelly who both work for SCH.

Mia’s journey unexpectedly ended on April 29, 2024. This tragic event was nothing her family could prepare for and is one of the biggest heartaches any of them have ever faced. They all hold onto the many precious moments they shared with Baby Mia. Amelia captivated everyone she met with love, kisses, smiles, and laughter.
