In Memory of Allen D. Carlson
Allen Duane Carlson, age 88, of Cumberland passed away on May 21, 2024, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN. He was born October 26, 1935, in Ellsworth, WI to John and Alma (Odalen) Carlson.
Allen was married on October 8, 1955, in Cumberland, WI to Barbara Jansen, who preceded him in death on June 26, 2010. A dedicated and proud military family, they would move on base in Anchorage, Alaska shortly after their marriage, and then again every two years until his retirement from the US Air Force in '74. Allen so enjoyed his time spent in the military, and even recently mentioned that "if they called him up today and asked him to come back, he would".
After retiring to Turtle Lake, WI, Allen spent his time as an active member of the community - including being a member of the Turtle Lake American Legion, the Lions Club, the Turtle Lake Fire Department, and even, briefly, Mayor of Turtle Lake. Allen was also the Public Relations Manager for the St. Croix Casino. He was instrumental in developing, what is now known as, Country Side Park in Cumberland. He was very handy, and helped his family remodel their homes. As of lately, Allen could be found spending time with his four-legged best friend, Poodie.
He is survived by children, Cary Ann (Smokey) Bents, David Allen (Chris) Carlson, and Jennifer Lynn (Tom) Buchholz; grandchildren, Steve Shortess, Tom Shortess, Amy (Huck) Roff, Bryan (Jess) Carlson, Josh Swanson, and Jason Buchholz; great-grandchildren, Chenoa, Traeton, Tanner, Claire, Eva, CeCe, Blake, Eastyn, Eisley, and Shon; great-great-grandchildren, Theodorah and OpheliaRae; brother, James (Karen) Carlson; brother-in-law, Steve Jansen and sisters-in-law, Dianne Peterson and Claire Carlson; and last but not least, his beloved Boston Terrier, Poodie.
Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Jansen) Carlson; granddaughter, Michelle Shortess Newville; great-granddaughter, Stephanie Newville; infant twin siblings; adult siblings, Connie (Howard) Byl; Muriel (Les) Erickson, and Gerald Carlson; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Jansen and Jean (Everett) Seabrook; and brother-in-law, Darrell "Pete" Peterson.
Military honors and a graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at The Northern WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers are Steve, Tom, Bryan, Jason, Josh, and Tanner.
