LTC Albert H Rock, 99, of Shell Lake died peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, Dec 4, 2017 at Spooner Health Systems.  He was born in Allentown, PA to Henry and Margaret Evans Rock.

Al married the love of his life, Joan Mary Jones at Shrewsbury Abbey, Shropshire County, England on January 27,1945.  Joan preceded him in death on July 13, 2012.

Al graduated from Wilkes-Barre HS in 1936. He joined the U.S. Army in 1941 as a medic but was later commissioned as an officer in the Chemical Corps in which he served until his retirement in 1963.  He served in civil service as the Safety Officer at Rocky Mnt Arsenal until 1980.  Al served through WWII in the European Division (England, Northern France, Ardennes and Rhineland) and later in Korea.

Al was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, World War II Victory Medal,  American Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, European-African Mid East Campaign Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Germany), Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal.

Al enjoyed fishing and golf and had a quick wit, which we all enjoyed. He was an accomplished artist and gifted writer.  Paramount in Al’s life was his steadfast love of family.  Al was a devoted husband, father and grandfather throughout his life.

Al is survived by his daughter in law, Anita Dugan of Shell Lake and two grandchildren, Cailen (Jennifer) Rock of Eau Claire and Jenna Rock of Minneapolis; several nieces and nephews.  

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Dec 16, 2017, 11 am at St. Albans Episcopal Church with Father Dave Bauer, officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Military Honors will be accorded by Wisconsin Honors Team and by the Shell Lake Honor Guard Post #9867

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shell Lake Arts Center or St. Jude Childrens Hospital.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Skinner Funeral Home of Shell Lake.
