In Memory of Agnes Nelson

February 23, 1919 - January 29, 2019

Agnes L. Nelson, age 99, of Barron, Wisconsin went into the presence of her Savior and Lord on Tuesday, January 29 at Monroe Manor Assisted Living Facility in Barron.

She was born February 23, 1919 in Cameron, WI, the youngest of five daughters, to Amund and Olena Lee.  She attended Cameron Grade School and then left school at age 16 to care for her ill mother after her father’s untimely death.

During WWII, she worked in Eau Claire at the Presto plant boxing ammunition in support of the war effort.  Later, she was employed at the Cameron Box Factory.  On June 11, 1943, she married Walter A. Nelson in Barron and God blessed them with two children, Linda and Allen.  Agnes enjoyed caring for her family and would help her friends and neighbors with her skills of hairdressing.  Sewing and baking were her joy and she took special pride in her pies and breads.

Agnes was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Barron and assisted the women’s group there with many and varied church functions.  She loved her family, especially enjoying the visits of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they would come to visit.

Agnes is survived by her son, Allen (Debera) Nelson of Rice Lake; son-in-law, David (Karen) Longmire of Rice Lake; grandchildren, Gerilynn (Erich) Hoeft, Zach Nelson and Lee (Melissa) Longmire; great-grandchildren, Taylor Woller, Finnegan Cody, Charlton Longmire, Isaac Hoeft, Lukas Hoeft, and Elijah Hoeft; along with many caring nieces, nephews and good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; her daughter, Linda Longmire; granddaughter, Rebecca Cody; and four sisters.

Funeral services for Agnes Nelson will be Thursday, February 7, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Barron with Rev. Ron Mathews officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 Thursday morning at the church before the service.  Burial will be at Wayside Cemetery in Barron.
