Woman Sentenced On Felony Charge Of OWI With Kids In Car

WASHBURN COUNTY -- The Court has sentenced Cheri Johnson, of Hayward, WI, and formerly of Minong, WI, on her felony charge of OWI 3rd Offense, with children in the car.

DrydenWire.com reported in February 2019, that Cheri Johnson had been charged with Felony Operating A Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated - 3rd Offense, With A Minor Child In The Vehicle, and Felony Operating With Prohibited Alcohol Concentration - 3rd Offense, With A Minor Child In The Vehicle.

Johnson’s vehicle was found crashed into a tree on County Highway I near Smith Bridge Road in the Town of Minong on January 6, 2019 shortly after 5:00 PM.

The 911 caller told Dispatchers that a toddler and a baby were inside the vehicle and that the female driver of the vehicle was unresponsive, according to a criminal complaint filed against Johnson in Washburn County Circuit Court. Washburn County Sheriff’s Deputies responded along with Minong Fire and Ambulance. The criminal complaint filed against Johnson states that neither Johnson, nor the children in the vehicle appeared to be injured as a result of the crash.

At a recent court hearing, Johnson pleaded guilty to her charge of Felony Operating A Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated - 3rd Offense, With A Minor Child In The Vehicle. The remaining charge was dismissed.

Johnson was ordered to serve 140 days in county jail, with Huber privileges. She has also been ordered to undergo an alcohol and other drug assessment and to pay over $3,000 in fines and costs.
