Wisconsin Paper Council Honors Senator Janet Bewley With Its 2020 'Legislator of the Year' Award

Madison – The Wisconsin Paper Council (WPC) has selected State Senator Janet Bewley (D- Mason) as the organization’s Legislator of the Year for 2020. Senator Bewley was presented with the WPC ‘Legislator of the Year Award” at the Council’s recent Annual Meeting held in Wisconsin Rapids. Each year the WPC selects at least two Legislators, one from each house and each political party to receive these prestigious awards.

“Senator Bewley has been a strong supporter of our organization and our industry,” stated Craig Timm, Chairman of the WPC Board of Directors. “Leader Bewley understands the paper and forestry sectors and has worked to inform and educate other policymakers about the importance of our industries. In addition, her leadership in the bipartisan Wisconsin Paper Caucus has been both recognized and appreciated. We are pleased to name Senator Janet Bewley as our “Legislator of the Year”.

Senator Bewley was honored for her strong involvement and continued support for Wisconsin’s pulp, paper and forestry industries. The lawmaker has been a strong advocate for passage of the Chemical Recovery Boiler Bill, a supporter of declaring May of each year as ‘Paper and Forest Products Month’ and is one of the key leaders of the bipartisan Wisconsin Paper Caucus.

“I am very humbled and honored to have received this award,” said Senator Bewley. “I’m proud to have worked with the Wisconsin Paper Council on important bipartisan legislation and have been very pleased to play a leadership role in the bipartisan Wisconsin Paper Caucus. Papermaking is an incredibly important industry here in Wisconsin. Working together in a bipartisan fashion, we can make this important sector of our economy even stronger.”

The Wisconsin Paper Council (WPC) is the premier trade association that advocates for the papermaking industry before regulatory bodies and state and federal legislatures to achieve positive policy outcomes. WPC also works to educate the public and the media about the social, environmental and economic importance of paper, pulp, forestry and printing production in Wisconsin and throughout the Midwest.
