Wisconsin Native Sean Duffy Confirmed As Transportation Secretary By U.S. Senate

WASHINGTON D.C. -- The U.S. Senate has confirmed Wisconsin native and former Congressman Sean Duffy to serve as Secretary of the Department of Transportation, following a bipartisan 77-22 vote on Tuesday. Duffy, who previously represented northern Wisconsin for nearly five terms in the U.S. House, will oversee a department with over 55,000 employees and a $100 billion budget.

Duffy’s nomination, advanced unanimously by the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee last week, received strong bipartisan support. The Hill reported that his confirmation positions him to lead critical infrastructure projects across the country, including highways, railroads, pipelines, and air travel systems.

In a press release, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, a Democrat from Wisconsin, explained her decision to support Duffy’s confirmation. Baldwin emphasized the importance of collaboration to address Wisconsin’s transportation needs and highlighted her ongoing commitment to ensuring infrastructure projects prioritize American workers and products.

“I have confidence Sean is the right choice to lead the Department of Transportation,” Baldwin said. “Together, we can ensure Wisconsin families have safe roads and bridges and that our businesses can get their products on shelves on time.”

Baldwin introduced Duffy during his Senate hearing and pressed him on maintaining "Buy America" provisions, a longstanding priority for her, ensuring infrastructure investments support domestic jobs and businesses.
