Wisconsin Lumberjacks Season Canceled; Minnesota Moose To Temporarily Move To Spooner

Spooner, WI -- With the announcement moments ago from the Wisconsin Lumberjacks regarding the cancelation of their 2020-2021 season, the Spooner Civic Center, operated by Spooner Area Youth Hockey and The Wisconsin Lumberjacks would like to welcome the Minnesota Moose Jr. a Hockey Club to Spooner for the remainder of their season. The Moose have been displaced due to their rink in Blaine, MN being closed due to current Covid restrictions.

When it became clear the Lumberjacks would not be able to play this season due to the international border being closed, a conversation started about the idea of hosting the Moose and allowing their team to complete their season here in Spooner.

“The Spooner Area Youth Hockey Association is sad to confirm the cancellation of the Wisconsin Lumberjack season. SAYHA gives our whole hearted support to the Wisconsin Lumberjacks and is looking forward to next season,” said Carrie Romsos, SAYHA President.

Romsos added, “Hockey family is what we talk about with our youth players a lot. To SAYHA, the Minnesota Moose are an extension of our hockey family and we are excited to welcome them to Spooner and to the Spooner Civic Center.”

The Minnesota Moose are a Jr. A team playing within the USPHL Leagues Premier Division. Founded in 2017 By Joe Dibble, the Moose have a long standing history of a high level of play and an exceptional record of moving players on to the next levels.

Jon Jonasson, General Manager & Head Coach of the Moose had this to say about the move, “We are very grateful for the opportunity to finish our race to a National Championship for our 20-21 season at the Spooner Civic Center. We owe a big thank you to Doug & Sophia Lein, Carrie Romsos, Spooner Area Youth Hockey, The Wisconsin Lumberjacks Organization and of course the community of Spooner, WI for welcoming the Moose with open arms for the remainder of the 20-21 season.”

The Moose will be moving to Spooner January 4thand will be hitting the ground running as they look to get back to some sense of normalcy and back on the ice.

Wisconsin Lumberjacks Co-Owner and team President had these thoughts, “As we had hoped to avoid a cancelation of our season, we are happy to be able to open our home and welcome the Minnesota Moose to Spooner. We will look to make their time here with us as enjoyable as possible. We hope the Spooner community and hockey fans around the area will welcome the Moose with open arms and make their time with us an enjoyable experience. The Lumberjacks are already making plans and readying for the 2021-2022 season.”
