SPOONER, WI -- Wild Rivers Habitat for Humanity, in partnership with both The Home Depot Foundation and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Veterans Home Repair and Modification Pilot Program (VHRMP), is pleased to announce that it is now accepting critical home repair applications for veteran households. This initiative aims to provide essential repairs and modifications to improve safety, accessibility, and overall quality of life specifically for veterans and their families.
According to the Housing Assistance Council, nearly a quarter of all veteran-owned homes (approximately 1.76 million homes) are more than 60 years old, and 1.6 million veteran households report difficulty entering their home or accessing the kitchen, bedroom, or bathroom. In addition to facing inadequate housing, more than 33,000 veterans are experiencing homelessness, according to the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
"We are deeply committed to supporting our veterans and ensuring they have safe and comfortable homes to live in," said Jennifer Johnson, Executive Director of Wild Rivers Habitat for Humanity. "With the help of The Home Depot Foundation and HUD’s Veterans Home Repair and Modification Pilot Program, we can address critical repair needs and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who have sacrificed so much for our country."
Applications for the veteran household critical home repair program are currently open and will continue until March 15, 2024. Veterans and their families in need of assistance are encouraged to apply early as funding is limited. Please note that the HUD VHRMP program is limited to disabled veterans only and need not be a service-related disability. Both programs require proof of general or honorable discharge.
