Man Sentenced On Conviction Of Fleeing Law Enforcement

BURNETT COUNTY -- The Court has sentenced a Webster, WI man on his conviction in Burnett County Circuit Court for fleeing law enforcement in a high-speed pursuit that occurred in March 2020.

On March 1, 2020, St. Croix Tribal Police Department attempted to stop Shaun Belisle on a Felony Probation warrant after he was spotted in a vehicle leaving Danbury, WI. According to a press release from the St. Croix Tribal Police Department, Belisle fled from law enforcement, reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph, crashed his vehicle into a ditch, and then continued to flee on foot into nearby woods. Belisle was not located at that time. Inside his vehicle, Officers located 8.04 grams of methamphetamine in three separate gem baggies.

A criminal complaint and arrest warrant were filed for Belisle on March 5, 2020, charging him with Class I Felony Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer; two counts of Class E Felony Possess w/ Intent-Amphetamine(>3-10g); Class I Felony Possession of Methamphetamine; and Class G Felony 2nd-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety. 

Online circuit court records show that Belisle appeared in Burnett County Circuit Court on March 11, 2020, while in custody. The Court placed Belisle on a $2,500 cash bond. Belisle appeared most recently on November 4, 2020, for a sentencing hearing. The Court ordered withheld sentences for Belisle’s convictions of Class I Felony Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer and Class G Felony 2nd-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety. The remaining charges against Belisle were dismissed but read in at a plea hearing in August 2020.

The Court ordered Belisle to serve 3 years of probation on his conviction for Class I Felony Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer. Belisle was also ordered to serve 5 years of probation with an imposed and stayed 6-year sentence for the conviction of Class G Felony 2nd-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety. If Belisle’s probation should be revoked, he faces 3 years of initial confinement in State Prison followed by 3 years of extended supervision. Belisle received credit for 245 days already served in County jail. 

In addition to the sentence on this current case, Belisle appeared in Burnett County Circuit Court in June 2020 for a sentencing hearing on revocation of probation for a case filed against him in 2016. The Court ordered Belisle to serve 18 months confinement for that sentence, with 18 months extended supervision and 217 days credit for time served. Belisle will serve probation on all his sentences concurrently.
