Attention Washburn County Residents! Did you start but not finish the 3-shot HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) Vaccination Series?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has an Advisory Committee in Immunization Practices (ACIP), and they recommend that if you started the 3-shot HPV Vaccine Series, that you complete it, even if you are over the age of 27. You do not need to start over, just pick up where you left off and get shot #2 and/or #3.
HPV, the Human Papilloma Virus, can cause genital warts and cervical, oral, penile and rectal cancers. The current vaccine protects against 9 strains of the virus which are responsible for over 80 percent of these cancers.
Persons with private insurance that pays for the HPV series, Medical Assistance or BadgerCare+ should get the vaccine from their Medical Provider.
Those with No insurance or insurance that Does Not pay for the HPV vaccine—this includes those covered under Family Planning Only Services—can complete the vaccine series for No Charge at the Washburn County Health Department.
