Washburn County Health & Human Services was one of nine local health departments in Wisconsin to receive grant funds from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to promote local opioid harm prevention activities.
The projects are funded through the Prescription Drug Overdose: Prevention for States grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
These projects promote and support activities that prevent prescription and non-prescription opioid overuse, misuse, abuse, and overdose, and are part of a coordinated effort to help local public health departments develop community responses to the opioid epidemic.
Washburn County is using grant funds for an Opioid awareness campaign, using Billboards and Movie Theater trailers to promote the CDC Prescription Awareness campaign. “This ties in well with the recommendations of the Washburn County Prescription Drug Task Force”, said Jim LeDuc, Washburn County HHSD Director. “We are very pleased to be able to get this grant. Anything we can do to lessen the burden of opioid abuse is a step in the right direction. Many people are just not aware of the dangers of opioid use; as the CDC’s Awareness campaign says It only takes a little to lose a lot."
