Washburn County Chief Deputy Richter Warns of 'High Deer Activity'

Washburn County Chief Deputy Richter Warns of 'High Deer Activity'

We handled several car/deer crashes in Washburn County today. I'm certain that there will be more tonight.

The whitetail deer's breeding season is in full swing, which causes the highest deer activity for the entire year.

Please use these safety tips for the next few weeks to keep your family safe while driving :

  1. Slow down when driving in deer country....night & day
  2. Use highbeam headlights to illuminate the roadway and ditch lines.
  3. When you see a deer, reduce speed....there are very likely more deer.
  4. If you are about to hit a deer, brake and steer straight ahead. Many people are injured and even killed when swerving into traffic, overturning, and hitting fixed objects such as trees when they try to avoid a deer.

Plan now for a probable deer encounter in the near future.

Stay Safe

Chief Deputy Mike Richter
