CHIPPEWA COUNTY -- A 59-year-old Holcombe man was rescued after his UTV broke through the ice on Lake Holcombe in Chippewa County, according to a press release from the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office.

Details of Event: On the above date and time the Chippewa County Sheriff’s office received a report of a man who fell through the ice while riding a UTV. First responders with the assistance of by standers were able to get to the location and rescue the man. The investigation revealed that the man was operating his UTV on the ice when he drove onto a weak area of ice and fell through. The UTV landed on an ice shelf and was partially submerged approximately three feet below the surface, with the upper portion of the UTV out of the water. The operator of the UTV was the sole occupant and is recovering at home. The UTV was removed from the water, local ice conditions vary and people should use caution on area waterways.
