Highway: US 53 SB
Location: MILE MARKER 128 County: BARRON
At 8:55 AM on Monday December 12, 2016 a crash occurred on US 53 SB at mile marker 128 in BARRON County near CHETEK.
Assisting agencies included Life Link of Rice Lake, Chetek Ambulance Service, Chetek Fire Department, and Lakeview Medical Center EMS.
On December 12, 2016, at approximately 8:55 a.m., The Barron County Sheriff’s Department reported a one vehicle rollover, with possible ejection of occupants, on U.S. Highway 53 southbound just south of County D.
State Patrol Troopers, Barron County Sheriff’s Department Deputies and a Chetek Police Officer all responded to the scene.
Upon arrival the officers located the vehicle, on its roof, in the westbound ditch of Highway 53 southbound.
A Life Link helicopter was landed at the scene and transported one of the occupants to Luther Hospital in Eau Claire. The other occupant was transported by ambulance to Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake. Both subjects received life threatening injuries.
The vehicle had been southbound on Highway 53, the driver lost control, and it entered the ditch on the west side of Highway 53, rolling multiple times. Both the driver and the passenger were ejected from the vehicle and neither were wearing their seatbelt.
Names are not being released at this time pending notification of relatives. The crash remains under investigation by the WI State Patrol.
