Tri-County Cancer Support Group To Form

On Thursday, February 27, in the Main Level Conference Room of Spooner Health at 5p, everyone who would like to be part of a Cancer Wellness Advocacy group created to serve Washburn, Burnett, and Sawyer Counties, are encouraged to attend. This first planning session is to share ideas with Shell Lake's Carmella Crandell, who will be hosting the meeting.

A 2017 breast cancer survivor herself, she was privileged to be taken under the wing of the Pink Ribbon Advocacy in Barron county during here treatments, and now would like to set up a similar advocacy group locally.

Also, in 2017, her husband, Larry, battled Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, which required weeks at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, for stem cell replacement therapy. His treatments lasted over a year and a half of treatment.

"It's time," says Carmella," to pay back for the support we received during our cancer journey."

This initial group meeting will be for those who have a passion for helping people in need, others with a passion for fundraising and those with innovative ideas.

"Barron County's Pink Ribbon Advocacy," which started fifteen years ago by friends of a person with cancer, who later lost her battle with the disease, provides help with travel costs associated with treatments, gas cards, money for motel expenses related to treatments. They also fund a wig bank and other hurdles that might be a hardship for those men and women battling cancer.

For more information, you can give Carmella a call at 715-468-7059.
