SPOONER, WI -- Michelle Martin, Public Relations & Marketing Director for Spooner Health, representing both Spooner Health and the Volunteers of Spooner Health, presented three local students with $2,000 scholarships each during a ceremony at Spooner High School on Wednesday, May 14.
Formerly known as the Auxiliary, the Volunteers of Spooner Health is a nonprofit volunteer organization. This small group of dedicated individuals makes a significant impact by supporting various projects at the hospital and throughout the community.
Each year, the Volunteers proudly award scholarships to students pursuing careers in health-related fields. Applications are reviewed through a blind process, with names removed. Criteria considered for the scholarships include academic success, involvement in school and community activities, and unpaid volunteer work. The Volunteers contribute $1,000 for each scholarship, which is matched by Spooner Health, bringing the total to $2,000 per recipient.
This year’s scholarships are given in memory of Lu McLellan, Inez Shaffer, and Mary Sundeen—longtime active members of the Auxiliary/Volunteers organization. The 2025 recipients of the $2,000 Volunteers of Spooner Health scholarships are:
- In Memory of Lu McLellan: Brooke Asleson
- In Memory of Mary Sundeen: Hailey Stariha
- In Memory of Inez Shaffer: Georgianna Gothblad
Congratulations to the scholarship recipients and best wishes in your pursuit of a career in healthcare. Spooner Health also extends congratulations to all Class of 2025 graduates.
