The Minnesota Moose, a Junior A Hockey team playing within the USPHL Leagues Premier Division moved into their temporary home at the Spooner Civic Center on Monday!
The cars rolled in at 1pm and soon hockey bags, duffle bags and hockey sticks were flying around. A Moose player from Texas, commented - "SNOW!" After moving into the locker room that they will be using until March 15th, the players promptly dressed and hit the ice for a two-hour practice followed by a work out at the Spooner Civic Center Gym. After their workout, the players went to their billet (host family) homes and they settled into a warm meal and their homes for the next few months.
Team Captian Jonah Bergstrom stated, "Wow" as he first entered the Civic Center. "We are thrilled to be back on the ice and have a home like this. I played here in the past with my youth team and it seems a lot cleaner and nicer. We are looking forward to all the Civic Center and the community of Spooner has to offer."
After arriving, Minnesota Moose Head Coach Jon Jonasson commented, "We are very excited to call the community of Spooner and the Spooner Civic Center our home for the next 2 in a half months. Since making the decision to come to Spooner for the rest of this season everyone within the community has been very welcoming! We look forward to bringing our Moose brand of hockey to Spooner until the Lumberjacks return next season!"
Wisconsin Lumberjack President, Sophia Lein added “the Wisconsin Lumberjacks are happy to welcome the Moose and happy to help another team finish out their season.”
Today, the Moose players will be back at the Civic Center for morning practice and then the players will be out in the community distributing flyers with their game schedule. Feel free to greet them (they will be wearing their jerseys) and get to know their hockey story.
Thursday night, January 7th the puck drops at 6:30pm for the first Moose game at the Spooner Civic Center and they will be back in action on Friday night, January 8th at 7:30pm. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Adult tickets are $10 and child tickets are $6. Masks are required along with social distancing.
