Support Staff Spotlight: Sari Torstenson

Editor’s note: “Support Staff Spotlight” is a weekly series that shines a spotlight on those that work behind the scenes in our area county departments that keep everything running smoothly. These individuals rarely get any attention (or credit?) but are vital to their respective departments. A new “Support Staff Spotlight” (formerly known as "21 Things You Might Not Know About Me") from one of our six-county coverage-area county departments will be published each Monday on DrydenWire.com.

SAWYER COUNTY -- This week, we shine the spotlight on Sari Torstenson. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Sari, she is the Deputy Clerk of Court at the Sawyer County Clerk of Court Office and has been at the Clerk of Court Office for 8 years.

21 Things About Me: Sari Torstenson

1. I was born and raised in Hayward.
2. My husband Brooke and I have been married for 8 years. We have a blended family of four boys – and each of our oldest boys have the same name, and the youngest are very close. Drake, Jake, Drake and Jack – Try saying that fast - lots of tongue twisting!
3. I have two yellow Labradors, Jersey Girl, who is princess and loves to talk. Ryder who is a wild boy, loves to chase a ball, but bring out the gun and he is all about hunting.
4. I am my boy’s biggest supporter! You will always find me behind the wheel traveling to their events, on the sidelines cheering, running through the woods catching them on each corner of their race, or sitting up for hours just having those conversations. Love being their Mom.
5. I played basketball from third grade through high school, and still enjoy shooting hoops.
6. Mexican food is my favorite. One can never have enough of chips and queso.
7. Having the American Birkebeiner cross country ski race in your back yard, I have always left town during that weekend, until 2021, I accepted a free registration, put on my first pair of classic skies and skied my first Kortelopet in 3 hours 10 minutes. Whew!
8. I hand write letters and send postcards when on vacation to family and friends through snail mail, a tradition I carry on from my Grandma.
9. I have a LOVE for the water! I learned how to waterski at 3 years old.  Started barefooting at 12 years old. From the time the ice is off, until the ice goes on you will find me on the water. I find so much joy in teaching others how to waterski.
10. I’m a bit competitive. Put me up to a challenge and I will accept it! I don’t like to lose.
11. I am one to never miss a photo opportunity. You’ll always find me with a camera in hand.
12. Family and friends mean the world to me! I am very proud Auntie, and love my friends’ children as my own.
13. I am a hard worker and take pride in my work. I have always worked multiple jobs at a time. I live by my Grandpa’s motto: Work before Play!
14. I like the strangest food combination – applesauce on my pizza.
15. My love for the water was taken to a new level, when my husband introduced me to scuba diving. The life underwater is just beautiful. My favorite and most exciting trip was to Belize and diving with the Whale Sharks. Unbelievably the Best Experience.
16. I dislike rollercoasters and just cannot stomach the climbs and the unknown of the falling. Though I have attempted to overcome this fear, I have failed each time.
17. I am very active in the outdoors - Hunting, Hiking, Four-Wheeling, Down-Hill Skiing, Snowmobiling, Snowshoeing, I enjoy doing yard clean-up and there is nothing better than a nice long walk in the evenings.
18. I volunteer in my community and participate on several committees and boards.
19. I enjoy traveling with family, friends or anyone who is up for an adventure.
20. I am blessed to have a strong faith; I start my day by listening to my daily devotional and my family ends our days with what we are thankful for.
21. I very much enjoy my position as the Criminal Clerk, along with the diversity that comes with the job. It is wonderful to work with a great team. Most days, at some point, I will be found in the courtroom; taking minutes while processing cases, and electronically filing documents. I find the job to be challenging yet very rewarding. It is amazing what you learn about human behavior, the consequences of your actions within the court system, and how people’s behaviors change their lives and the lives of others that touch your heart when you see it day to day. It is quite humbling to receive compliments from Judges and Attorneys on my efficient work in the courtroom and makes me proud of the job I have.
