ST. CROIX FALLS, WI -- The St. Croix Falls Police K9 Association was honored to receive a very generous $10,000 donation from 100 Women Who Care - Polk/Burnett.
Receiving the donation is Officer LaBrun, K9 Ikar, Tammy Twedt-Close (100 Women Who Care), and Mayor Kirk Anderson. These funds will help continue the St. Croix Falls Police Department's K9 program into the future, providing needed supplies, training, and related costs for K9 Ikar.
K9 Ikar was introduced to the public in May 2022 and has served the St. Croix Falls community since that time.
K9 Ikar's handler says, "he (Ikar) is an invaluable addition to the Police Department. His work has led to over 50 drug-related arrests in the past few months. Not only has he found drugs like methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, and marijuana, but his work has also led to the arrests of individuals intending to distribute it in our community."
The St. Croix Falls Police K-9 Association, Inc. was established in April 2019 to help raise the initial $50,000 needed to start a K9 program in St. Croix Falls with zero tax impact on the community. Through the generosity of businesses and individuals in the community, the St. Croix Falls Police K-9 Association raised enough money to launch the program.
The funds secured a beautiful German Shepherd - Ikar, paid for him and his handler's training and certification, a new K-9 police vehicle, and everything needed to maintain the program. A local veterinarian even provides free checkups & food for Ikar!
Now that the program is nearly 4 years old, the St. Croix Falls Police K-9 Association continues to raise funds to continue the program. This includes the reality that as Ikar ages, he will retire and a new dog will be needed in the future.
