SASD Superintendent Dr. David Aslyn responds to LTE Titled: ‘Gender Discrimination In Spooner Youth Sports’

Spooner Superintendent Responds To Recent Letter To The Editor

UPDATE: There has been a new LTE regarding this post titled: "Follow Up On Girls' Youth Basketball".  You can read that post by clicking HERE.

Note: This submitted post from Superintendent Aslyn is in response to a submitted Letter To The Editor post published on DrydenWire.com earlier today titled: "Gender Discrimination In Spooner Youth Sports".  You can read that post by clicking HERE.

The SASD provides opportunities for girls and boys to participate in basketball beginning in 7th grade. Spooner, along with communities across the nation, rely on volunteers to coach community youth sports programs. This is the case with the Little Dribblers Basketball Program.

We’re fortunate to have great people working in the SASD. I’m proud of the many district employees who, despite busy work lives, volunteer their time and talents to support youth sports and many other activities that enrich our community.

There’s truth in the old adage, ‘it takes a whole village to raise a child.’ I hope that someone or a small group of people will find it in their hearts to volunteer to coach these deserving children. The SASD stands ready to support the squad with the use of facilities and equipment at no cost when a coaching arrangement is in place.

Dr. David Aslyn
