Spooner Health Hosts Career Exploration Program For Spooner Middle School Students

Spooner, WI — This spring Spooner Health invited Spooner Middle School students from the Out of School Time Club to experience a “behind the scenes” look at healthcare careers. Nine students from the after-school program joined their teacher over a period of nine weeks to learn about the incredible variety of healthcare career opportunities.

Each week, the students rotated through different departments of the hospital. Department visits included Rehabilitation Services, Inpatient, Pharmacy, Business Office, Plant Operations, Surgery, Emergency, Imaging, Quality, Infection Prevention, and Laboratory.

Students were provided with hands-on activities such as scrubbing in for surgery, using a stethoscope, experimenting with rehabilitation service tools, learning how to measure dosages for medicine, CPR demonstrations, medical terminology, identifying x-rays, and more.

At the end of the program, the students shared some feedback with the Spooner Health team on their experience. Some of the comments included, “Thank you for a once in a lifetime opportunity,” “Thank you for letting us explore the hospital,” and “I wish it could have been longer.”

Spooner Health would like to thank the Spooner Middle School Out of School Time Club and students for visiting. For students who are interested in a career in healthcare, be sure to visit here, and here.
