Snow Sculpture Contest To Kick Off America’s 250th Celebration In Spooner

SPOONER, WI — Spooner will officially kick off its celebration of America’s 250th anniversary with a community Snow Sculpture Contest on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Railroad Park.

The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with judging beginning promptly at 3:00 p.m. The contest is free to enter and open to individuals, families, businesses, and community teams of all ages and skill levels.

Organizers say the Snow Sculpture Contest is intended to be a welcoming, family-friendly way to bring the community together while celebrating Spooner’s history, railroad heritage, and the start of the nation’s semiquincentennial year.

“This is about creativity, community, and kicking off a historic year together,” organizers said.

“You don’t have to be a professional artist, just bring your ideas, your gloves, and your sense of fun.”

Participants are encouraged to create sculptures inspired by America’s 250th anniversary, Spooner history, railroads, or original creative designs. Sculptures must be completed by 3:00 p.m., when judging will begin.

Awards will be presented in several categories, with final categories determined based on participation. Planned awards include Best Overall, Best America 250 Theme, People’s Choice, and a Kid-only Team Award. Kid-only teams will be judged separately from adult or mixed-age teams.

Registration is free but required in advance. The deadline to register is Friday, January 23, 2026. Registration information and updates will be shared through official event channels.

The Snow Sculpture Contest is the first public event in Spooner’s year-long participation in America’s 250th anniversary, marking 250 years since the founding of the United States in 1776.
