Siren Man Charged with Felony Burglary

An investigation by the Siren Police Department has resulted in Felony Burglary charges for a Siren, WI man.

According to the criminal complaint on March 27, 2017, law enforcement received a complaint that 2 snowmobiles were stolen from the Village of Siren. The victim of the theft stated that the 2 snowmobiles had been taken within the last the 24 hours. The Siren Police Department initiated an investigation with the assistance of a Burnett County Sheriff's Office Deputy.

The victim stated that a 2015 Polaris snowmobile valued at $10,500 and a 2015 Skidoo snowmobile valued at $10,500 were both missing from where they had been stored on Imme Road and that there were visible tracks leading to a field just south of the victim's address. Officers were able to follow the tracks on through the field to an old barn.

A trailer house was located on the same property and when officers spoke with the resident of the trailer home, he stated that he knew nothing about any snowmobiles, but that another man, Dakota Mulroy, and Mulroy's girlfriend also lived there and that they were at work on a farm on Paulich Road.

The man gave the officers consent to search the property including any buildings. They were not able to locate either snowmobile.

The criminal complaint continues stating that the officers next went to the farm on Paulich Road where they located Mulroy. Mulroy told the officers he would take them to the snowmobiles. Mulroy took the officers to a ravine in the Siren Township Forest where the stolen Polaris snowmobile was found covered with a brown tarp. Mulroy next took the officers to an area near County Highway B and Lind Road where the stolen Skidoo snowmobile was parked about 50 yards off a snowmobile trail. The Skidoo was parked against a tree and there was damage to the front end of the snowmobile.

During further interviews with Mulroy, he told officers that he had been drinking at the Pheasant Inn bar in Siren, WI. The criminal complaint goes on to say that Mulroy said that when the bar closed he did not have a ride home or anybody to call so he began walking towards Clam Lake. He came across a locked shed while he was still in the Village of Siren and saw two snowmobiles stored inside the shed. Mulroy told officers he pried open the two locks on the shed's door and then drove one of the snowmobiles back to his residence. Mulroy told officers that he then took his girlfriend's keys and drove her car into town and parked. He then went back to the shed and took the second snowmobile out on the old snowmobile trail. After returning to his residence, he then drove the first snowmobile down the road until he parked it.

Mulroy has been charged with Burglary of a Building or Dwelling, a Class F Felony; 2 counts of Theft of Movable Property Having a Value Greater Than $10,000, a Class G Felony; and Class I Felony Criminal Damage to Property, whereby that property's value was reduced by more than $2,500.

An initial appearance on these charges is scheduled for Mulroy in Burnett County Circuit Court on April 26, 2017, at 1:00 PM.

Public record shows that in both 2011 and 2015 Mulroy was found guilty of Wis. State Statute 943.23(4m) which states that anyone who intentionally accompanies as a passenger in a vehicle while knowing that the owner of a vehicle does not consent to the vehicle being taken and operated is guilty of a Class A Misdemeanor.
