Short-Term Lane Closures Necessary To Complete US 53 Project

NORTHWEST WISCONSIN -- Between March 31 and May 31, motorists will encounter sporadic lane closures on US 53 as minor finishing work is completed on the pavement replacement project between 26th Avenue north of Rice Lake in Barron County to Pine Grove Road south of Sarona in Washburn County.

Remaining work is temperature dependent and includes:

  • Tensioning cable barrier in the median between 26th and 27th avenues to reduce crossover crashes.
  • Placing a high-friction surface treatment on the pavement in the same area to reduce run-off-the-road crashes.
  • Removing and replacing a concrete joint, which will result in a several-day closure of a southbound US 53 lane.
  • Placing final pavement markings.

Motorists are reminded that using handheld cell phones in Wisconsin work zones is illegal. Alerts and updates provided via these sites are not intended for use while driving. When driving, your focus should always be on driving.
