Once again this year, the Shell Lake Lions Club, plus local businesses and residents, have created a tribute to the season with a beautiful salute to Christmas with hundreds of light in the campground.
There are five new displays this year and the lights go on each night around 4:00 pm and then off around midnight.
These lights, which, according to coordinator for the second year, Lion Rob Anderson, extend beyond the campground to the Community Center and the fence behind the turn-around on the highway, all the way to across highway 63 to the Shell Lake State Bank’s ATV machine area with the new addition of a beautiful evergreen tree. They didn’t forget Shell Lake’s mascot either, this year it has a lighted wreath in its mouth.
The process to move the new tree to the site was similar to the tree at the White House, starting with a tree donated by growers, Tiffany and Jason Schroeder who own New Dimensions in Spooner. Both Portable Shelters and Shell Lake Marine transported it to the site where the city crew had dug a huge hole through the frozen ground in order to plant it.
A sizeable cash gift of $150 was awarded to the first place winner this year, and Jared Kidder from the 3-C General Store easily won the prize and set the bar a little higher for others next year.
The Lion’s plan to go bigger next year and are asking if anyone has outdoor lights they are not using, to call Rob Anderson at 715-468-2007 to donate them. They are also looking for people who would like to participate next year with a display.
The lights will be on until the first or second week in January, weather depending, and the display is quite a sight to see, both from the highway and up close and personal with the city keeping the campground roads well plowed.
