River Falls, WI – Local entrepreneur and current State Representative Shannon Zimmerman has
announced he is running for the 10th District in the Wisconsin State Senate. The seat will become vacant due to the recent appointment of Senator Sheila Harsdorf to the post of Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection by Governor Scott Walker.
“I am passionate about boosting job opportunities and increasing prosperity for Western Wisconsin’s workers and families,” said Zimmerman. “I want to do my part from the Senate to grow better paying jobs and more successful small businesses from Burnett and Polk Counties to St. Croix, Pierce and Dunn Counties if the voters say yes.”
“For the past sixteen years Senator Harsdorf has represented the citizens of the 10th district with distinction,” Zimmerman continued. “She is widely admired for her ability to hear the concerns of her constituents and provide common sense solutions on issues that matter. It’s my goal to continue to provide this type of accessible, trusted leadership as the State Senator representing western Wisconsin.”
Zimmerman was elected as the the State Representative of the 30th Assembly district on a platform of workforce development, support for education, economic growth, fiscal responsibility, and preserving the outstanding quality of life enjoyed by residents of the St. Croix Valley. Representative Zimmerman has delivered on this platform since his election.
“I am proud to have voted for the recently approved Wisconsin state budget, a budget that provides the largest increase in K-12 funding in state history and directs funds to training that will close our skills gap, all while keeping property taxes in check and our financial house in order, including a substantial increase to Wisconsin’s rainy day fund,” said Zimmerman.
Zimmerman is also a strong proponent of the agreement that will lead to FoxConn establishing a high-tech manufacturing presence in Wisconsin.
“Wisconsin has the opportunity to rival the most innovative economies in the world thanks to the inspiring conversations between FoxConn and our outstanding educational institutions” said Zimmerman. “Our region will see great benefits from this agreement as the FoxConn supply chain will include numerous employers in the 10th Senate District.”
Beyond his service in the Wisconsin Legislature, Zimmerman and his wife, Angel created one of the largest employers in western Wisconsin, Sajan, a global language translation company headquartered in River Falls from the ground up. Shannon and Angel also own and operate a family-run winery, Belle Vinez, in River Falls.
“Angel and I are both life-long residents of western Wisconsin,” said Zimmerman. “Our children and grandchildren have been educated in our great public schools and state universities and we want to continue making the 10th Senate District a great place to start a business and raise a family just like we did.”
