POLK COUNTY (DrydenWire) - A 911 call on Monday, October 9, 2023, alerted the Polk County Sheriff's Office to a distressing incident unfolding on Cedar Lake. A homeowner reported a boat operating erratically in the lake, accompanied by desperate cries for help from a female. The events that followed have triggered a relentless search for a missing adult male.

According to a press release from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, on Monday, October 9, 2023, at approximately 5:36 PM, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a homeowner on Cedar Lake within Polk County reporting there was a boat operating in circles in the lake and a female could be heard yelling for help.

An adult female was pulled out of the water by a passing boat and reported that she had been on the boat with an adult male and her dog. The boat was stopped and discovered to contain only the dog. A search for the missing adult male was initiated.

As of October 10, 2023, at 12:00 PM, the search is ongoing.

The boat landing located at the intersection of CTH M and 10th Avenue is closed and boaters are asked to stay off the water until further notice, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene during the initial search by multiple agencies, to include the Wisconsin DNR, Washington County Dive Team, St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, New Richmond EMS, Osceola Fire Department, and all three Allied 1st Responders and Fire Departments, Hudson Fire Department, Stillwater Fire Department, Lower St. Croix Valley Fire Department, Oakdale Fire Department, and Mahtomedi Fire Department.

Names associated with this case are being withheld at this time. The circumstances leading to the boaters entering the water are still being investigated, according to the Sheriff's Office.
